Collider is a project of Rob van Rooij and Ruud Terhaag
Perception of space plays a central role in Collider. We manipulate this perception through light and sound. By matching the geometry of the projected image accurately to the contours of the space, the illusion of motion appears to come from the walls. It feels like the room itself transforms. The contours change, walls, floor and ceiling move. The proportions and distances deform. The static environment comes to life and we are right in the middle.
With the 8.1-channel sound system, we can live change the acoustics of the space. It's shifting direction, and scale. Collider can literally follow the sound and visualize its position. This is because the image projection is directly linked to the position and movement of the sound in space. Collider is more than an audio-visual experience in itself, it's also an ongoing research into the limits of our perception. Seeing sounds and hearing images.
